GP Appointments

Appointments can be made by telephoning 01283 732257 or by calling into the Medical Centre.

We ‘release’ pre-bookable appointments every day at 8am up to 4 weeks in advance which offer a range of available times and dates throughout the week to suit as many patients as possible.

No GP appointments can be booked more than 4 weeks in advance. 

Appointments are for 10 minutes and for one person only. If you feel you need more time than this, please ask for a double (20-minute) appointment. Although we try to run to time, sudden emergencies or patients requiring more time than allocated can cause us to run late. If you are delayed for these reasons your patience is requested. Remember: it could be you! 

We also ask you to arrive to your appointment on time to allow our clinics to run as near to time as possible.

We appreciate that it is sometimes difficult to get an appointment at the time you want or with the doctor you would prefer. Whilst we are trying everything we can to improve our appointment system, we have limited resources and cannot offer unlimited appointments. As in all parts of the NHS, our funding is being reduced rather than increased and this is affecting all areas of our work, including the number of appointments we are able to offer. Please bear this in mind when you are calling the surgery.

Nurse Appointments

These are pre-bookable up to 6 weeks in advance.

‘Sit and Wait’ Clinics

If we do not have an appointment that is suitable or you feel you need to be seen sooner, then you will have the option of coming to the surgery for our 'Sit and Wait' clinic.  You will be given a time to arrive at the surgery, normally between 11.30am and 12.30pm and will need to wait your turn to be seen.  You will normally be seen in order of booking, although doctors reserve the right to see patients out of order for clinical reasons.  You do not have the option of to choose a specific doctor but you can ask for it to be male or female. 

Please note ‘Sit and Wait’ clinics are strictly for one problem only, if you feel you need more time or have a lot of problems to discuss, please mention to the PA when you contact the surgery as a routine appointment may be more appropriate.

 
What if I have an urgent problem?

If you have an urgent medical problem please contact the surgery on 01283 732257 you will be offered the next available appointment that morning or you will be asked for your details and a contact telephone number then the Duty doctor will call you back to assess your problem and either give you advice over the telephone or organise for you to come to the surgery to be seen that afternoon.

If you wish to speak directly to your doctor, please call the surgery and you will be booked into their next available Phone Back slot. The doctor will then call you back. 

We are unable to specify a time when your call will be returned, it could be at any point during the day or even after the surgery has closed.

You may choose to use this facility if you are unsure as to whether you need an appointment or visit, or for general advice.

Cancelling Appointments

It is extremely important that if you are unable to attend your appointment for any reason, please call the surgery to cancel on 01283 732257 or send us a text on 07858 892891, stating your full name, appointment date and time or use our online cancellation form which can be found on our home page.

We ask you allow a minimum of 12hrs notice wherever possible.Your appointment can then be used by another patient.

Please note our mobile number is for appointment cancellations only and not for any other form of communication.

Due to patients either forgetting to attend the surgery or cancelling their appointments we loose approximately 20hours of clinical time each month therefore we ask each and every patient were possible to please cancel their appointments to help others.

Home Visits

Home visits are for the housebound or seriously ill. Please telephone before 10.30am and be prepared to give the receptionist some indication of the nature and urgency of the problem. The doctor will usually wish to speak to you before arranging to visit.

Wherever possible please try to attend the Practice as the quality of care we can offer in the home is much less than in a well equipped Medical Centre.
